![]() It's not that people say "Oh this is a souls-like game so I should immediately expect it to be identical to the souls game to 99%", people do however say "This is a souls-like game so I should expect the progression, death and combat mechanics to be similar". People aren't experiencing the games through the comparison of _ Souls games, they're describing the mechanics of the games with the series that have gotten the largest amount of recognition for what it does. And if I did, I wouldn't be enjoying Half-Life for what it is, and wouldn't even be able to clearly see what Half-Life is, and all my opinions on Half-Life would be falsified because they'd be dependent upon something that Half-Life isn't.Įxperiencing a game through comparison to another one is pointless, IMO, and is a mental hang-up that only reduces enjoyment of a game. Why, and which people? I don't compare Half-Life to Wolfenstein 3D. ![]() As such, the term is going to be Souls-like as that's what people are going to compare it to.
